Liverpool are linked with a move for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window
According to Goal (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are yet again linked with a move for German forward Serge Gnabry from Bayern Munich ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old’s contract with the Bavarian giants expires in 2023 and he is yet to pen a new deal at the Allianz Arena. The former Arsenal starlet has been linked with a move to the Reds in the past and yet again, Anfield has been touted as a potential destination.
The report claims that Gnabry is considering his future with Bayern Munich, and has attracted interest from Liverpool, Real Madrid and Juventus. An electric performer for Bayern, he has considerably upped his game since departing the Emirates.
The German winger has been sensational for Bayern in the past few years and yet again is having a great season in Munich. The 26-year-old has scored 14 goals and provided another 10 assists across all competitions this season and proved to be an important cog in the Die Roten team.
Capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, Gnabry’s versatility comes in handy for Bayern. However, the German forward predominantly prefers playing from the right side of the attack and is on his day a difficult player to mark.
A shrewd signing?
Even though he is just 26, Gnabry has already attained enough experience to be considered a veteran. A much more polished player, it remains to be seen if he will return to England for a second innings of sorts.
The German has been ridiculed during his time at Arsenal while also having experiences at West Bromwich Albion, Werder Bremen and TSG Hoffenheim. These experiences would have made Gnabry tougher and with more nerves of steel.
Liverpool have Mohamed Salah as their first-choice right-winger right now and whilst the Egyptian is magnificent, there are a lot of controversies surrounding his future at the club.
Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane along with Salah have led the Liverpool line exceptionally well for quite a few years now but all of them are nearing their 30s and might not be around forever.
The Reds have already started being very smart in the transfer market, signing Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, two players capable of occupying the striker and left-wing roles for many many years at Merseyside.
Jurgen Klopp will want to similarly secure a replacement for Salah and Gnabry fits the bill perfectly. At 26, the German will be entering the prime years of his footballing career and he is as much for the present as he is for the future.
