Transfer News: Manchester City have shown interest in Liverpool target Jude Bellingham

According to Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Manchester City have become the latest English team to enter the race for Liverpool target Jude Bellingham.  

In the past, Bellingham attracted serious interest from Premier League clubs Manchester United and Liverpool. Both the rival English teams are eyeing to add the prize asset to their arsenal, which would indeed make their squad stronger in terms of quality and depth. 

The Englishman has wreaked havoc in the Bundesliga with his mesmerising performances. After all, scoring six goals and bagging 13 assists in 39 matches

across all competitions is not everyone’s cup of team. The achievements seem overwhelming for an 18-year-old player playing just his second season in Germany. 

It is believed that Manchester City have now joined the race for Bellingham. City have built upon their financial power in recent years and their purchase of Jack Grealish for a British-record fee of £100 million

reflects how far they can go in order to land their targets.

This creates a threat for Liverpool, who has been heavily linked with the English youngster in recent months. The Reds have been attentive to young talents in recent years, but they have been cautious about paying huge transfer fees at the same time. Thus if City’s involvement in the race skyrockets Bellingham’s asking price, then it wouldn’t be in the Merseyside club’s court. 

How can Bellingham help Liverpool? 

There is a growing concern regarding the age of Liverpool’s top midfield stars, including Jordan Henderson, Jame Milner, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho. Most of them are over 30, meaning they would be more vulnerable to injuries and are approaching the twilight of their careers.

Adding Bellingham will give the Reds a suitable successor to Henderson and a youngster who can be a long term solution in the position for years to come.

Despite his young age, Bellingham has reached stability regarding his performance. He can have an immediate impact on Liverpool’s performance. Furthermore, the ability to play a pivotal role in midfield makes him a contender for Henderson’s long term replacement. 

If the recent reports are accurate, then winning the financial battle would be much more difficult for the Reds against Pep Guardiola’s team. But, an offer with better involvement, game time and a robust project might help the Reds’ board put up an intense fight in the negotiation battle.
