Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s game against Manchester United as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp hopes for Roberto Firmino to be fit for the clash against Everton on Sunday.
Liverpool ran riot against Ralf Rangnick’s men putting four unanswered goals past David de Gea at Anfield last night. They continue to pile up the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the table in what is an exciting title race. Mohamed Salah scored a brace with goals from Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane also helping the Reds.
One player who was missing from the squad for the Manchester United clash was Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino who missed the game altogether. In his absence, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane stepped up big time for the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp provided an update on Roberto Firmino’s injury and availability for the Merseyside derby this weekend. He remains optimistic going into this weekend’s Merseyside derby.
“Bobby was not involved because in the very last situation of the City game he got something on his foot. It’s not really bad.”
“We hope so. Actually, we were a bit worried but the scan was fine. But it’s still very painful and that’s why there was no chance [against Man United].
Although Firmino is no longer as indispensable to the Liverpool team as he used to be, he is still a very important cog in Jurgen Klopp’s machine.
The Brazilian playmaker striker has been influential with his performances for the Reds on a regular basis and he will be a substantial miss for the Reds.
The 30-year-old has played 31 times for the Reds this season scoring 11 goals and providing four assists. Although no longer a sure starter, his output has been fairly decent.
That said, Liverpool are well stocked in options for the forward line and have four quality players in Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota. Getting over Firmino’s absence will not be that difficult.
Liverpool are hunting for an unprecedented quadruple this season and Jurgen Klopp will want his squad completely fit and firing to help him in the cause. He will be hoping to have Firmino back as soon as possible. It remains to be seen if the Brazilian is involved in the Everton clash in some capacity.
