Jurgen Klopp gives a glowing verdict of his substitutes after Liverpool down Everton in a fiery Merseyside derby at Anfield

Speaking in the post-match presser as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp showered praise on his substitutes after Liverpool defeated Everton in an emphatic victory.

The Reds came into the game with a good run of form but struggled to open up the Toffees in the first half. The visitors sat deep and defended with a dogged determination and sturdiness, trying to hit us on the counter. The low block coupled with time-wasting tactics by Jordan Pickford was something of an irritating picture for Liverpudlians.

After a bleak first half, the German manager brought on Luis Diaz, Divock Origi, and Jordan Henderson in the second half. Needless to say, the trio had a great impact as the Reds played with a 4-4-2 formation in the second half in a tactical tweak that gave them the upper hand.

Klopp highlighted the difference made by his subs on the day as they piled on the pressure against Everton who finally cracked in the 62nd minute via an Andrew Robertson header.

“They did what substitutions should do. We are really happy with their impact this season, to be honest. When the boys come on it is all about the right mindset, being ready including all three subs, Hendo came on late but how he showed up was absolutely exceptional.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager hailed the impact of the Columbian and Belgian international as they took to the pitch to face Frank Lampard’s men. The duo was involved in both the goals that were scored on the evening.

“Obviously, Luis and Divock were involved in the goals and that helps especially when you play against such a low block. We were not really good in the first half, I can admit that easily as it was obvious. Everybody saw it.”

The great impact subs

At this moment we have almost gotten used to Origi coming off the bench and producing something magical for us, especially on the big occasions. He absolutely adores the Merseyside derby and has instilled fear in the hearts of Evertonians all around the globe.

While that may be true, we should also speak about how Diaz has adapted like fish to water in our attacking setup. The former Porto man who joined in January has already caused opposition defenders a lot of headaches with his darting runs down the line.

Henderson has always proven to be an able leader on the pitch and we can witness it every time he flaunts the captain’s armband for the club. His presence brings a sense of calm and composure and very few can rival the kind of dogged determination that he shows on the pitch.

The Reds have come out flying this season and possess a great amount of squad depth that wasn’t available until a couple of campaigns ago. The Anfield outfit seems like a unified team rather than having to rely solely on a few players to provide them with results this season.

We have got goalscorers from some highly unlikely sources in recent fixtures and we hope that the club can maintain this form as we head into the latter stages of the season. Having the ability to make such substitutions that can make an instant impact is nothing short of a blessing.

All of the things seem to be falling in place for us but now is not the time to get complacent should we really want to achieve the famed quadruple this season. Many have come closer and failed but hopefully, our team can get over the line in all the competitions.
