PSG director Leonardo speaks about the future of Kylian Mbappe who has been linked with Liverpool and Real Madrid
In conversation with L’Equipe as relayed by Get French Football News (h/t Liverpool Echo), PSG director Leonardo hinted about the future of Kylian Mbappe who has been increasingly linked with Liverpool and Real Madrid in the recent past.
The French superstar has been a revelation in global football. He rose to prominence with AS Monaco before going on to spearhead the attack at Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe has developed into a world-class player.
The 23-year-old has churned out some unreal numbers, bagging 33 goals and notching up 22 assists in 42 matches across all competitions for the French club this season. He has been a pivotal figure at Le Parc des Princes but his current contract with them expires in June this year.
All of these incidents have sparked a rumour mill around where the French international will play next campaign. Leonardo hinted that the former Monaco star was in ‘deep reflection’ so that he could make the best decision, asserting that Mbappe knows what the Ligue 1 giants want
“Kylian is speaking and saying things clearly. I really believe in what he’s saying. He’s in deep reflection. I don’t think he’s made his decision. He knows what we want, and we know what he’s thinking. That’s why I think it’s a question of timing. He’s in deep reflection in order to make the best decision.”
Mbappe and the future ahead
Whilst many wonder kids come and go, the 23-year-old French international has really made his mark on the global stage. It is understood that PSG rejected a €200million (£171million) bid from Los Blancos for his services.
That goes to show the talent that he possesses and one can now understand why the Reds have been linked with him. At 23, the former Monaco starlet can achieve even greater things at the club level should he continue on the same trajectory.
The Reds have a feared attacking trio of their own with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah. The club have also done a good job of bringing in suitable additions such as Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota who have made a substantial impact in the last couple of seasons.
That being said, acquiring a player such as Kylian Mbappe is an excellent deal considering that he may be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. While that may be true, there is also a certain uncertainty looming around the future of Salah, and the French forward could be a sound purchase after all.

The thought of being able to purchase him may seem rosy but we should remember that Liverpool has a very tightly-knit wage structure at the present moment. This is one of the factors hindering us from giving the Egyptian international a bumper new contract and could also be an obstacle should we be genuinely interested in buying Mbappe.
We should hence take all the different elements into consideration should we be afforded an attempt to land the 23-year-old. At the moment, the interest from Real Madrid seems to be very strong but only time can tell us where the French star shall ply his trade next season.
