Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has won the Football Writers Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year award for the 2021/22 season. The Egyptian superstar is currently on a contract that ends in 2023 but hasn’t let that uncertainty affect his performances in the slightest.
edged past Kevin De Bruyne and Declan Rice who came in second and third place respectively in the rankings. The Egyptian international received 48 % of the votes this term. The former AS Roma man is winning this title for the second year having previously won it in 2018. Salah has been in scintillating form this season, bagging 30 goals and 14 assists in 44 matches across all competitions for the Reds so far in this campaign.
His contributions have helped us remain competitive on several fronts and he just keeps churning out those unrealistic numbers time and time again. What makes his exploits even more interesting is that he has managed to maintain this kind of consistency for a considerable amount of time.
The Egyptian has been known for his goals but despite having fingers pointed at him for being greedy at times, leads the race for the PL Playmaker Award this season. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Salah have both combined well and are ruthless from the right flank in recent times.
The former Chelsea man seems to have picked up his form once again bagging an assist in the latest Merseyside derby against Everton. Prior to that the 29-year-old forward clocked in two goals against Manchester United in their Premier League fixture. Not to forget that he assisted Sadio Mane for the second goal against Villarreal in our latest UEFA Champions League tie.
It is crazy to think that our very own superstar failed to have a substantial impact in his earlier stint with the Blues. Not only has the Egyptian star bagged a lot of individual accolades during his time at Anfield but also guided us to some major trophies via his exploits in front of goal.
We hope that Mohamed Salah can help us lift many more trophies before the end of the term as we stand on the cusp of a potential quadruple. Here is how the LFC fans reacted on Twitter to the news of him bagging the FWA POTY award.
