Liverpool eyeing a move for North American forward playing in Italy

Transfer News: Liverpool interested in signing Napoli ace Hirving Lozano

According to journalist Nicolò Schira (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are keeping a close tab on Hirving Lozano, who could leave Napoli this summer.

Since joining Napoli in 2019, Lozano has developed into a vital player for the Italian side. He has bagged six goals and six assists in 35 appearances across all competitions in this campaign and remains a threat down the flanks for his team.

Lozano could be set to leave his current club Napoli in the following summer transfer window. The 26-year-old has attracted the eyes of Liverpool, who are believed to be looking for a right-winger in the market.

Liverpool have Harvey Elliott as the only recognized right-wing backup for Mohamed Salah. Considering the age and lack of first-team experience, the Englishman probably requires more time before being trusted with prominent roles down that side in crucial matches.

Moreover, Jurgen Klopp has clearly preferred playing him in central midfield, as evidenced this season. Sadio Mane can play down that flank, but he remains a threat down the left flank as well as in the centre-forward position.

How can Hirving Lozano help Liverpool?

Liverpool will probably be better equipped to challenge for trophies with an experienced backup in their ranks. Lozano has been performing consistently in the Serie A for the last three seasons and while the Reds are already chasing a historic quadruple this month, sustaining such dominance requires a strong team in the near future as well.

Being in Europe since 2017, the 26-year-old has gained experience playing in two top-tier European leagues in the Eredivisie and Serie A. Given his age, he has a long way to go before he enters the twilight of his playing career.

But then again, signing him isn’t something the club urgently needs. The club can perhaps go on for a couple of more years given that they manage to retain their superstar frontline. The likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino are already struggling for gametime despite Roberto Firmino’s recent injury.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool launch a genuine transfer offer for Lozano. The Reds would be wise to hurry and get the deal across the line before other potential suitors can sniff Lozano’s situation at Napoli.

But that is if the club has a genuine interest in the Mexican. Signing a player without any plans for him in the first team set-up won’t be beneficial for anyone and hence, the club would be wise to assess all possible factors before potentially making a move for him.
