Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is concerned about his long-term future at Liverpool
According to Daily Mail, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is concerned about his career at Liverpool after not getting any chances to feature for the last and half months.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has fallen from the pecking order of Jurgen Klopp in recent times. Even though his total appearances count remains 29 across all competitions for the season, he has not participated in a single match since March 20.
Jurgen Klopp has preferred James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcântara as his prime choice, while Naby Keita and Curtis Jones have taken up the favoured backup spots. As none of them has suffered injuries lately, the German manager hadn’t felt the need to use Chamberlain.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has only one year left in his contract. However, it is uncertain whether Liverpool would offer him a renewal deal as they have already secured the transfer of Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho, who would probably be used regularly rather than the 28-year-old.
Amid such a situation, it is believed that Chamberlain is fearing for his Liverpool future. As his contact end is closing, his lack of game time could cause concerns for his renewal deal.
Chamberlain’s situation has attracted the eyes of some Premier League clubs who view it as an opportunity to strengthen their squad. If Liverpool agrees to give away the Englishman in the following summer window, they might get a good deal.
What should Liverpool do?
Liverpool has been highly comfortable with Jurgen Klopp’s preferred midfield choice in this campaign. However, considering the long term picture, the team might be better off with young reinforcement as Milner, Henderson, and Thiago have all crossed the 29-year-old mark.
Liverpool have acted to fulfil the requirement with the signing of Carvalho, who is set to join the team from next season. The manager would get a balanced lineup with young and experienced players upon his arrival.
However, considering Chamberlain hasn’t shown any groundbreaking performance that can help him gain the manager’s trust. Keeping the 28-year-old would probably be a luxury for the team next season.

It would be better for both parties to part ways on good terms in the following summer transfer window. Liverpool might not be able to retrieve the £35million fee they paid for him in 2017, but they would avoid losing him for free in 2023.
