Contract News: Max Woltman signs new Liverpool deal after breakthrough in senior team
According to Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool starlet Max Woltman has signed a new contract with club after a season that saw him make his debut for the senior team. He signed his last deal with the Reds in January 2021.
The 18-year-old forward has been impressive for the development teams, scoring 23 goals in 69 games across all competitions at various age levels. This season also saw him get some gametime with the big boys.
He was brought on in the dying embers of the game against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League earlier this season. The Reds won 2-1 on the night and were top of the ‘group of death’ after gameweek 6.
Woltman was then handed 45 minutes in the Reds’ FA Cup win against Shrewsbury. Klopp’s men won 4-1 on the night and made their way into the fourth round of the competition they now stand a chance to win.
Good move by LFC
They take on Chelsea this Saturday at Wembley, with Thomas Tuchel’s side already having lost once to the Reds in the EFL Cup final back in February. Woltman is perhaps not going to feature that day, but he can say that he played his part, however little, in his team making the final.
Woltman is one of many young Liverpool academy starlets making an impression right now. The likes of Tyler Morton and Oakley Cannonier are also knocking on the door of some gametime with the senior team.
It is important that the Reds build for the future as well, and players like Woltman could save the club a big headache in the future if he blossoms into a quality striker. The Wirral-born youngster can then possibly replace the likes of Roberto Firmino in the team.

The Brazilian isn’t getting any younger and with the Reds also expected to challenge on all fronts again next season, it is likely that youngsters such as Woltman get some time out in the sun too.
