Transfer News: Jurgen Klopp gives seal of approval to Liverpool pursuing Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay
According to the Athletic (Subscription Required) Mirror, Jurgen Klopp has approved Liverpool’s pursuit of Calvin Ramsay, the Aberdeen right-back who is also on the transfer radar of Leeds United.
The young defender has made quite an impression, winning the Scottish Football Writers’ young player of the year. After accepting the award, Ramsay spoke about how Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson have influenced his playing style.
“As a full-back, watching Trent and his crosses and his technical ability – if I can get to that level then it would be a bonus.”
“Andy Robertson at Liverpool and Tierney at Arsenal have been brilliant and they’re players I look up to, especially as they are full-backs like me. I feel I could go on to do that as well.”
Neco Williams was given several chances by Klopp to play as TAA’s back-up on the right flank ever since he took the step up from Liverpool’s U23 side to the senior team. But he largely failed to impress as a first-team option, and joined Fulham on loan this season.
Ramsay to LFC?
With the Welshman still an option for Klopp to consider, many would have wondered if our pursuit of Ramsay made sense. But the Mirror now claim that Klopp has given his seal of approval to the Scotsman.
If the German sees potential in the youngster, then there shouldn’t really be any room for debate. He knows what’s best for his side and he was the one who believed in Trent when most of our fans were largely questioning the young Scouser’s performances in his debut season.
When our fans saw a young TAA get demolished against Manchester United in a 2-1 defeat back in March 2018, not many would have imagined the youngster being one of the best in his position around the world in a few years’ time.

But Klopp did, and that’s what mattered. If he sees potential in Ramsay, our board would be smart to get him in our team. With Leeds also involved, the Scotsman could have a choice to make this summer granted they could offer extra playing time but hopefully, the Reds get their hands on the much-hyped Ramsay- who apparently will go for a fee above £3million.
