Jurgen Klopp has warned Liverpool of the threat possessed by Chelsea ahead of the FA Cup final
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Liverpool Echo) before the FA Cup final against Chelsea tomorrow, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has warned his team of the threat Thomas Tuchel’s men pose.
Liverpool faces Chelsea tomorrow in what turns out to be a rematch of the Carabao Cup final in which the Reds managed to overcome the Blues on penalties after the match ended in a stalemate in regular time. Hopefully, it will be another Wembley night to remember for the Reds.
Caoimhin Kelleher turned out to be the unlikely hero for Klopp’s team on that day with the talented backup shot-stopper slotting home the winning penalty before Kepa Arrizabalgaskied his to hand Liverpool the cup.
Speaking of the match against Chelsea in the Carabao cup final, Jurgen Klopp admitted that the Reds were lucky to win on that particular day. In a one-off game, luck can in fact play the role of a 12th man on the field.
“We didn’t ‘beat’ Chelsea. We won the shootout. I’ve said a few times without luck you have no chance and luck was on our side that day. We know how good Chelsea are. Both teams will go for it.”
The German manager went on to warn his team of the threat Tuchel’s men posed, calling them a well-coached team. That is certainly the case given that Tuchel is a stickler for details.
“It’s a completely different game. Chelsea is a really well-coached team, iI have to say. They have an idea for all areas of the game. They are organised defensively. We have no idea how Thomas will line up, there are so many options. team. They have a similar system to others but a different level.”
Can the Reds keep the dream alive?
That match was the beginning of Liverpool’s quest for an unprecedented quadruple and is something they still have managed to keep alive by reaching the finals of the FA Cup and the Champions League. They also remain in contention for the Premier League although that title seems to be slightly out of reach.
Regardless of what happens in the Premier League, to keep the dream alive, Klopp will know he has to win tomorrow. A final of such magnitude generally has no favourites but having won a previous final against the same opponents, the Merseysiders might just have the psychological edge.
Chelsea are not in the best of form coming into this final but they did manage to get past Leeds midweek and the fact that Romelu Lukaku is finally firing makes them a dangerous opponent to face.
The Reds will have to be at their best to get past Tuchel’s team tomorrow and Klopp will not be willing to cut any corners. No complacency of any sort would be entertained and the players will know well to do their jobs right.
