According to Liverpool Echo, there are claims of Sadio Mane wanting to stay at Liverpool if he is offered a new contract which sees a substantial rise in his wages. According to the Mirror as early as February of last year, Mane’s current contract sees him pocket £100,000-a-week.
The Senegalese superstar will enter the final year of his current deal at Anfield next season and there haven’t been any concrete signs of him wanting to extend it. But it is now claimed that a contract that sees him earn around £300,000-a-week can convince him to stay at LFC.
It is wise to take news such as this with a pinch of salt. Mane has been linked with a move to Barcelona and Bayern Munich and it comes right in the middle of the biggest month in the history of this club in terms of winning silverware- with three trophies on the line.
Speaking in an interview with L’Equipe in March 2022 (h/t Daily Mail), Mane admitted that he doesn’t want to live a luxurious life like Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo because he believes it isn’t ‘for him’.
So, it remains to be seen if the man who holds values such as those would want to jeopardise his future at Anfield solely because of wages. But then again, it isn’t fair to judge someone on the basis of what they think they deserve for their services.
Mohamed Salah is in the same boat, with his contract expiring in 2023. The Egyptian superstar is also demanding an increase in his wages with a figure that can reach up to £400,000
-a-week, as per Daily Star.Mane has had a superb 2022, winning the AFCON and carrying that form to Liverpool. He has been more crucial to our team’s attack this calendar year while Salah continues to underperform after a great first half of the season.
Since the ex-Metz and Southampton winger is so vital to Klopp’s team, he may want to be paid an amount that reflects that- in comparison to his teammates. There is nothing wrong with that.
Despite Luis Diaz’s inclusion down the left-hand side, Mane continues to be a vital cog in Klopp’s machine, taking up the centre-forward role in Roberto Firmino’s recent absence.
But only time can tell what is true and what isn’t in this saga. The focus right now should be on winning the PL, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. All of this can wait until the summer window opens.
