Liverpool tipped to swap Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for West Ham United ace Jarrod Bowen
According to Nathan Ridley of The Mirror, Liverpool could be set to offer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in exchange for Jarrod Bowen in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Reds star moved to Anfield from Arsenal in 2018 and had a promising debut season. However, injuries prevented him from putting in consistent performances and he has since fallen down the pecking order on Merseyside.
Ox did not feature in Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Southampton earlier this week. The fact that he was an unused substitute in a game that saw Klopp make nine changes to the starting XI does not bode well for his future at Anfield.
At 28, the Englishman is in his prime and should be starting week in, week out for the Reds. He is far from doing that and the situation appears unlikely to change anytime soon. That being said, a move elsewhere could be the best foot forward for all sides involved.
West Ham United has been touted as a potential destination for Ox this summer. The Hammers lack a dynamic driving force in midfield and it is a role in which Ox can thrive.
More so, Liverpool could also use him as a makeweight in their efforts to land winger Jarrod Bowen. The 25-year-old has been one of the best wide-men in the Premier League this season. He will not just add more depth to the Reds frontline but also potentially develop into a world-class player under Jurgen Klopp.
As things stand, the prospect of a swap deal appears speculative at the moment. Whether the Hammers will part ways with one of their star players for a reserve star is debatable.
Liverpool could of course offer cash player Ox in a deal that is arguably sweeter. Either way it could benefit all sides involved. After all, Klopp appears to have an excellent opinion of the Hammers star.
