“Goalscoring battle”- Klopp answers if Salah will play vs Wolves amid Golden Boot race

Jurgen Klopp gives injury update on Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, and Virgil van Dijk for Wolves tie, addresses Golden Boot race

Mohamed Salah is in a tight race for the Golden Boot, which is why Liverpool fans would be eager to know if he can take the field against Wolves this weekend. The Reds striker was injured in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

However, it seems as if he is fit to play again but according to Jurgen Klopp, he is not going to take any risks with him. The same goes for Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, both of whom have picked up fitness issues in recent weeks.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (h/t Liverpool Echo

), Klopp claimed that he doesn’t want to take risks with the Liverpool players returning to fitness. He also acknowledged the Golden Boot race between Mo and Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur.

“Looks all good. What we do with them for the weekend, I have no idea. We actually understand 100% the goalscoring battle with Son Heung-Min, but there’s no chance we take any risk. Mo doesn’t want to take any risks, I’ve no doubt about that.

Spurs’ South Korean talisman has scored 21 goals in the league this season, while Salah has 22. With just one game remaining, it is clear that both players will have their eyes on the coveted individual prize that Salah has almost always been in contention for since his move from AS Roma.

Golden Boot or UCL glory? No-brainer…

Spurs take on Norwich City at Carrow Road while the Reds welcome Bruno Lage’s men at Anfield on Sunday. The Lilywhites don’t have any other commitment apart from the game against the Canaries, where they can seal a top-four finish ahead of Arsenal.

The Merseysiders, meanwhile, have a revenge mission against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final on May 28. Four years ago, an injured Salah prematurely exited the pitch in tears as Liverpool lost the UCL trophy to Los Blancos.

A win there would obviously be way more important for the Egyptian than an individual award. Ideally, he would want to win both, but any risk we take against Wolves could then haunt us if things go wrong. Salah is our main man up front alongside Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz, after all.

Liverpool can’t afford to take the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers lightly either. Fans would never be able to live down the trauma if Man City drop points against Aston Villa on Sunday and the Reds still don’t manage to win the league.

A balance must be found with regards to our starting XI this weekend. Luckily, Roberto Firmino has recently returned from his injury and Luis Diaz has absolutely mesmerised fans since his January move, giving Klopp more options up front.
