Transfer News: Liverpool still want Torino defender Gleison Bremer amidst heavy interest from elsewhere
According to transfer news on Torino Granata (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have ‘set their sights’ on Torino star Gleison Bremer ahead of the summer window.
The Brazilian defender has been linked with a host of teams including Manchester City, Man United, Bayern Munich, Napoli, AC Milan, and Inter Milan. The centre-back is apparently valued between £21m-£25m.
Do the Reds really need a defender? If we go by the current situation, there doesn’t seem to be any place for Gleison to sneak his way into our first-team set-up. The Reds already have four top-quality options at centre-back.
Virgil van Dijk has been often paired with Ibrahima Konate in our UEFA Champions League games, while Joel Matip has been seen more prominently in the Premier League. Such has been their fitness record this season that Joe Gomez has seriously struggled for starts.
Do LFC need Bremer?
The ex-Charlton Athletic defender has been relegated to the bench largely as a backup for Trent Alexander-Arnold down the right-hand side of the defence. And that is where he played when Jurgen Klopp’s men faced Newcastle United and Southampton in recent weeks.
It’s better if we focus on handing more playing time to the Englishman rather than looking outwards for more new faces at the back. It is no surprise that Gomez has already been linked with a move away from Anfield, with Aston Villa a contender for his signature this summer.
Signing the 25-year-old Brazilian Gleison Bremer, in case Gomez leaves Anfield, would then make way more sense. But apart from that, it’s best if we focus our energy on other areas of the pitch that needs strengthening.
A quality number nine that can replace the exit-bound Divock Origi and perhaps a natural defensive midfielder to act as Fabinho’s understudy would certainly please the majority of the club’s fanbase.

Then again, signing players is easier said than done. It remains to be seen what players the club targets and which ones they let go of this summer, but as long as the team is strengthened overall, then Liverpool can be positive about their chances next season.
