Liverpool star believes Reds’ title challenge deserves a spot in the history books

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold says this season’s titles chase is one for the history books

While speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Trent Alexander-Arnold suggested that the way Liverpool fought back in the Premier League title race can be considered among the best in the competition’s history.

The Reds will go to the final day of the Premier League season trailing leaders Manchester City by one point. A win for Jurgen Klopp and co against Wolverhampton Wanderers followed by Man City dropping points against Aston Villa will hand Liverpool the title.

Such a situation looked unlikely at the turn of the year as Man City held a healthy lead at the top. Despite the intense and hectic schedule of the league, Klopp’s men stayed persistent and closed the gap game by game, taking it to the final weekend.

Liverpool full-back Alexander-Arnold believes that the achievement might have been much harder than it seems from the outside. Given that Man City are a juggernaut, it certainly makes sense.

“When there’s seven or eight fixtures to go, you think surely someone’s got to drop a few points. We have, but it’s been quite even. You think back to January and we were miles behind them and we’ve fought back, got ourselves into an amazing position.”

The Reds’ academy graduate even suggested that it should be considered one of the best runs in Premier League history. We will certainly agree as long as we pip Man City on the final day.

“To push the way we have all in competitions this season, it’s got to be for me one of the best team performances over the course of a season in Premier League history.”

Where does Liverpool’s performance stand among all-time greats?

Being the only English team to have the chance to win the quadruple, Liverpool have done marvelously this campaign. It hasn’t been the work of one or two crucial players as the whole team has stepped up whenever needed.

The Reds did something similar in the 2018/19 season when they only lost one league game in the whole season. Still, it wasn’t enough to beat Manchester City’s points, resulting in heartbreak for the Merseyside giants.

More Liverpool News

Rather than seeing their performance in the perspective of one season, if we consider the whole Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool, then they might find a place in the pantheon of Premier League’s great sides. Not because of the wins or accolades, but more importantly because of the way they played and fought back as a team.

Considering the campaign hasn’t ended yet, they still have the opportunity to add more to it. It remains to be seen where they finish at the end.
