Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gives his verdict on future PL title tussles

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes the Premier League won’t be a two-horse race any longer

While talking in an interview as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp suggested that the top teams are building their squad meaning Liverpool and Manchester City will face more competition for the Premier League title next season.

Liverpool and Manchester City remain the only two title contenders going into the final day of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign. Apart from the initial few months where Chelsea were firmly in the mix, no side has come close to challenging. Klopp and Pep Guardiola’s side have held the edge over their rivals for the last few seasons.

Trailing Manchester City by one point, Liverpool have to rely on Aston Villa to secure the title later tonight. If Steven Gerrard’s men beat or drew against the Citizens then only the Reds will have a chance to secure their 20th league title. The Premier League remains the most sought title for the Reds fans as they have only enjoyed lifting it once in the last 30 years.

Jurgen Klopp has worked miracles at Liverpool.

When asked whether any team can end the Liverpool-man City dominance, Klopp suggested that the other top teams in England including Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United are building their teams to compete. Securing the PL could prove difficult in the seasons to come.

“But you know Ten Hag is arriving at United and they don’t wait now five years or whatever, they will go big and these kind of things. You have Tottenham and Antonio Conte is very, very ambitious and they have already a good team. To play in two competitions (Premier League and Champions League) they will need a few more players and they will bring them in.”

The German manager added that the gap might not be as broad as it appears to be today. Even though Liverpool are in a comfortable position now, it wouldn’t take long for them to be brought down to earth if they lose their concentration.

“Nobody has to worry that the gap will stay forever or whatever. It was the hardest work to get here. So if we take the foot a little bit off the gas then immediately it’s not whatever the gap is at the moment, it’s immediately three points and that’s nothing.”

The end of an era?

Jurgen Klopp has rebuilt this Liverpool team from scratch. It took him a few years, but he has led the team where it truly belongs – to the top of English and European football. The Reds are now the only team that have the chance to secure a quadruple this term and are on the cusp of history.

There are already some top teams that have shown massive improvements in the second half of the season. Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and United could go on to add to their squads in the summer transfer window. Hence, the Reds might have to face significant challenges from next season.

That’s an added reason why Jurgen Klopp’s team should give everything this term to secure the Premier League. They have to beat Wolves to have the best chance of winning it. It remains to be seen if the events elsewhere will also work in Liverpool‘s favour tonight.
