Injury Update: The latest on Thiago Alcantara’s fitness for the UCL final

Injury News: Liverpool to give Thiago Alcantara a chance to prove fitness before UCL final vs Real Madrid

Thiago Alcantara picked up an injury when Liverpool faced Wolves last weekend. The Spaniard hobbled off the pitch just before half-time with the score still at 1-1.

With the Premier League title on the line, the fans were more focused on the proceedings at the Etihad and Anfield. But after the full-time final whistle, the impact of Thiago potentially missing the final in Paris has started to dawn on some fans.

According to Liverpool Echo, the Reds are willing to give the 31-year-old star every chance to prove his fitness before the UEFA Champions League showdown against Los Blancos

. That is, in all honesty, good news.
Thiago Alcantara makes Liverpool a different team.

It is better than hearing that he is definitely going to miss that game. Even if he can make an appearance off the bench, it would help LFC in a huge way against the 13-time European Cup/UCL winners.

The ex-Bayern Munich midfielder is now set to undergo ‘intensive treatment’ at the AXA Training Centre before Liverpool reach a decision on his fitness. Those who watch Jurgen Klopp’s side would tell you Thiago is very important for them in midfield.

Race against time

He is a very good player on the ball but his contributions are felt equally when the Reds are out of possession. Being a former Barcelona player, he would be itching to get ready in time for the final against Los Galacticos.

Fabinho is also in a race against time to play at Parc des Princes with the Brazilian star out of action ever since his injury in the 2-1 win against Aston Villa. Mohamed Salah, much to our relief, made his return against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

We need one of Fabinho and Thiago to be fit. If both are out, Klopp will then have to start scraping the barrel and we may see the likes of James Milner and Curtis Jones in a European final.

One of them is perhaps on the wane while the other hasn’t had a lot of first-team football this season. Harvey Elliott is another option but given his tender age, a UCL final may be too big a stage for the Englishman.

More Liverpool News

Then again, with the progress that the ex-Fulham star has made, we can’t rule out anything. Regardless, it is safe to assume our fans would feel much more secure if Thiago and Fabinho can both start or at least feature in some capacity against the newly-crowned La Liga champions.
