Transfer News: AS Monaco director issues Aurelien Tchouameni statement amid Liverpool, Real Madrid interest
AS Monaco director Paul Mitchell has told RMC (h/t Liverpool Echo) that Liverpool and Real Madrid transfer target, Aurelien Tchouameni, still doesn’t have a preferred destination.
The Reds apparently believe Los Blancos are leading the race, but according to Mitchell, the player’s future is more dependent on the kind of offer the French club receives.
“I don’t have a preference, to be honest. Of course, an important fee is needed. Offers have to be very aggressive if they want us to sell a top player like Tchouameni”.
According to ESPN, Kylian Mbappe has also asked PSG to sign Tchouameni. The 22-year-old midfielder is a close friend of the star striker, who recently turned down a move to Real Madrid. The player’s fee is expected to cross the €50million barrier.
LFC lead Tchouameni race along with Madrid
The Reds and Madrid, however, are leading the race for the ex-Girondins de Bordeaux midfielder. He joined Monaco in 2020 but has already become a very important part of Philippe Clement’s side.
He is also becoming a regular for Didier Deschamps and his French national team. That is a big compliment to his ability given the amount of talent Les Bleus‘ midfield possesses.
It now seems like the Reds would have to make a strong financial push if they really want the young central midfielder. Monaco’s director has stated that an aggressive offer can persuade the club and the Merseyside-based giants would be very wise to go all out for him.

Midfield is one position where we can clearly strengthen. And given the French star’s age, he can be an asset for the short and long term in the middle of the park. It now remains to be seen if Klopp and co actually make a big effort to sign the player this summer.
