Opponent Watch: Real Madrid confirm squad to face Liverpool in UCL final

Team News: Real Madrid confirm full squad to take on Liverpool in UEFA Champions League final

Real Madrid, via their official club website, have released the full list of players that will take on Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final.

The two teams take on each other in Paris on 28th May in what is a rematch of the 1981 European Cup final. The Reds won 1-0 in Paris that day but lost in the 2018 final to the same opponents by a 3-1 scoreline.

The full squad for Real Madrid is as follows (h/t Real Madrid official website)

Goalkeepers: Courtois, Lunin, Fuidias.
Forwards: Carvajal, E. Militão, Alaba, Vallejo, Nacho, Marcelo, F. Mendy.
Midfielders: Kroos, Modrić, Casemiro, Valverde, Lucas V., D. Ceballos, Isco, Camavinga.
Forwards: Hazard, Benzema, Asensio, Jović, Bale, Vini Jr., Rodrygo, Mariano.

That is a full-strength Los Blancos team. David Alaba was perhaps the only potential headache for them as he missed the club’s final La Liga fixture against Real Betis.

What to expect for LFC?

But the Austrian has been named in the squad to face the Reds come Saturday. Carlo Ancelotti played a full-strength Madrid team bar Alaba that day in order to get them warmed up for the UCL final clash.

Gareth Bale was not seen in the matchday squad but is in contention to play against Liverpool. Another surprise inclusion would be that of Eden Hazard.

The Belgian hasn’t really been a regular starter for Los Galacticos despite his much-hyped move from Chelsea. Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr are Madrid’s preferred choices down the wings.

But both Bale and Hazard have faced LFC in the past. Their dribbling and shooting abilities make them a potent option to bring on from the bench, with their dead-ball skills also a factor to consider.

It remains to be seen what team the ex-Everton and AC Milan manager goes with this weekend but Jurgen Klopp can rest assured that he won’t have, at least as of now, any help when it comes to Madrid missing key players due to suspension or injuries.
