According to ESPN, The expected move of Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid has been held up due to tax issues, providing a potential opening for Liverpool to pounce.
The Frenchman has been a regular for Ligue 1 side Monaco and is among the best young midfielders in Europe. Apart from giving dominating outputs from the holding midfield position, he has bagged five goals and three assists in 53 appearances
across all competitions.Tchouameni’s sensational output hasn’t gone unnoticed as top teams like Liverpool, PSG and Real Madrid have all shown great interest in the French midfielder. It was perceived that Los Blancos have won the race and are in connotation to complete
the transfer in the coming days. However, new reports state that there could be another twist in the transfer pursuit of the 22-year-old.Real Madrid are ready to pay €80 million for the signature of Aurelien Tchouameni. However, they are now demanding that Monaco pays 24% in taxes on the €60m profit they are expected to make from the transfer move.
Even before the Ligue 1 side had been pushed to pay the taxes on profits on players’ sales to Spanish time. However this time, Monaco hopes that Real Madrid would pay the tax sum which is below €15m and they are ready to fight their argument.
As it stands both teams might have some different intentions, which has halted the progress of the transfer. However, a source close to the French midfielder has suggested that it might not have a large impact on the bigger picture and the deal is still optimistic.
Liverpool have managed the season with ageing stars including Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho and Thiago Alcântara. Even though they were able to produce effective performances when fit, they spent time on the touchlines due to injuries and considering their age it might turn into a big problem going forward.
Despite being young, Tchouameni has given mature performances for Monaco, which suggests that he could be a great fit for Liverpool. He might be able to take some pressure off the regular midfielders in order to influence more effective performances out of the Reds’ squad.
The tax issue seems to be a spark of good news for Liverpool fans. However, it would take more than that to completely cancel out his expected move to Real Madrid. It remains to be seen how the situation develops in the coming days.
