Transfer News: Liverpool in contact with Barcelona contract rebel Ousmane Dembele, face PSG and Chelsea battle
According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t the Mirror), Liverpool have contacted the entourage of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele to ‘sound out’ a potential summer move.
The French star is set to become a free agent this summer, with Barca keen on keeping him on board. He has also piqued the interest of Chelsea as well as Paris Saint-Germain as the trio vies for a chance to potentially sign him as a free agent.
That would be a big loss in terms of transfer fees for Barca, who paid £105million to Borussia Dortmund for his services five years ago. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, meanwhile, has been linked to Bayern Munich.
The Senegal international is one of our most important players. If he leaves Anfield, there would be no doubt in fans’ minds that the club needs to replace him, despite Luis Diaz signing in January.
Dembele to LFC?
Both the Colombian winger and the ex-Southampton forward started the final of the UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid yesterday. Hence, the notion that Diaz has or will replace Mane would be open to debate by that logic.
This LFC attack needs an exciting winger like Dembele, who has shown what he is capable of this season under Xavi Hernandez. With 13 assists across all competitions this season, the 25-year-old star has emerged as one of Barca’s chief creators.
Those who have watched Dembele play would attest to the fact that he can play well with both his feet and his dribbling skills in tight spaces makes him a tough man to mark. He can, like most wingers, play on both flanks in attack.
