LFC Transfer News: Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma admits he knows about Liverpool being interested in him
Speaking to Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma admitted that he has been made of Liverpool being interested in him.
The 25-year-old winger joined the Yellow Submarines just last summer from AFC Bournemouth. Since then, he has become a vital part of Unai Emery’s already stacked attack at the Ceramica.
With 16 goals in 34 games across all competitions this season, Danjuma has certainly made a mark in Spain. And he has admitted that he was made aware of the Reds’ interest in him during the course of the latest season.
“…I was informed that Liverpool were following me closely. I will never lie and I think it’s a bad quality if you are not ambitious. And if a club came along that offers a higher sporting platform, I would always consider it.”
It is always a boost to a club’s chances if a target of theirs comes out with comments such as this. Not only did he name-drop Liverpool, but the Lagos-born winger also admitted that he will consider a move to a club with a better project than Villarreal.
LFC a better project
The La Liga club punched above their weight in the UCL this season, making it all the way into the UCL semi-final. But they were then outclassed by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool comfortably over two legs.
There is no doubt which team offers a better chance of winning their respective league title and the UEFA Champions League. The Reds came within 1 point of winning the PL and were the losing finalists against Real Madrid in the CL final.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool show interest in him again. But given what has been going on around the club in recent weeks, perhaps a potential move for Danjuma can make sense.

Sadio Mane is heavily linked with an exit this summer while Mohamed Salah’s contract expires next year. Despite signing Luis Diaz in January, we would surely need a quality replacement if either of those two wingers leaves in the near future.
