Liverpool to rethink transfer plans after suffering a blow in their efforts to sign a replacement for Sadio Mane

Reports from Daily Express and Liverpool Echo suggest Liverpool have taken huge blows in the transfer pursuit of Ousmane Dembele and Son Heung-Min, either of who can replace Sadio Mane

The Senegalese star is expected to leave the club in the summer window with Bayern Munich heavily interested in the winger. The Bavarian giants are readying a bid in excess of £35 million and it remains to be seen if it will be enough to land their man.

As Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are entering the final year of their contract, Liverpool find themselves with much to do. If Mane leaves this summer, the Reds have to sign another attacker on a priority basis and they have already shortlisted some potential transfer targets.

Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele who is set to become a free agent in the coming summer window has attracted interest from Liverpool. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side might have to take a blow in the pursuit as the Frenchman is believed to be closing in on an agreement with Chelsea.

The Reds planned to make a massive bid for the signing of Tottenham’s Son Heung-min amid Sadio Mane’s stance. But now it is believed that the South Korean is expected to stay at the Spurs after their top-four finish this season.

Why is it important for Liverpool to sign a reinforcement?

Mane has been a reliable servant to the team for several years. Scoring 120 goals in 269 matches across all competitions while playing in the Premier League isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Whether he leaves or stays put, Mane will leave Anfield a Reds legend.

It wouldn’t be easy finding a replacement for such an influential figure even if the club agrees to splash a big amount of money in the summer. While Luis Diaz’s arrival gives Liverpool a ready-made replacement on the left-wing, not bringing in another player will impact their squad depth.
