European giants willing to pay £42m to bring Liverpool midfielder back to France

Transfer News: Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita linked with a shock move to PSG

According to French outlet Foot Mercato via Imedias.net (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is on the transfer radar of PSG.

Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to part ways with £42million to sign the Guinean international, who has 48

caps for his international team. Keita has had a decent season at Anfield, with 40 club appearances across all competitions this season.

The former RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig midfielder is in the last year of his contract at LFC. It was in France where Keita began his footballing journey in Europe.

The dynamic central midfielder left Horoya AC in his home country to play in Ligue 2 with Istres. He was snapped up by the Austrian side a year later, and the rest is history.

Liverpool paid above £50million to sign him so the amount being quoted above isn’t shabby for a player in the last year of his deal. From a financial standpoint, this looks like a very smart deal for the Reds.

But then again, Keita is one of the few central midfielders with a good age profile right now. Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Thiago Alcantara are in their 30s while Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are too young to be handed regular starts in central midfield.

This season was the most number of appearances he has made across all competitions for his club since the 2014/15 campaign. It shows that there is hope for Keita leaving behind his injury troubles.

PSG already took a reliable midfielder from us last year in Georginio Wijnaldum, who has had a poor individual season there. The Reds would be wise not to let another one of their stars join the Parc des Princes outfit for the sake of keeping their midfield stacked and fresh for the next season.
