Liverpool feel they would be better off losing Sadio Mane for free when his contract ends

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Liverpool don’t want to give Sadio Mane away in a cut-price deal and would be comfortable in keeping him at the club for the next 12 months if their demands are not met.

The 30-year-old has given even another top-notch spell in the recent campaign helping the team by scoring 23 goals and providing 5 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions. Apart from helping Liverpool win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, the Senegalese forward has helped his nation win the AFCON tournament, which is a giant achievement for any African player.

As Mane hasn’t signed any contract extension yet, speculations regarding his future intensified in recent months. The 30-year-old was questioned about the same topic before the UEFA Champions League final, in response to which he suggested that he would clarify all the details after the UCL match against Real Madrid.

Mane’s link to Bayern Munich has intensified since making that comment. Even though the transfer seems achievable at this point, there is a huge roadblock that the Bavarian giants have to cross in order to get their wish.

It is believed that Liverpool are demanding €50 million (£42.5 million) for Mane and would be comfortable in letting him go if they get a good replacement. But Bayern is seeking a range of around €30 million (£25.5 million). A middle ground hasn’t been found and it is now believed that the Merseyside team would be happy to lose him for free after keeping him for another 12 months rather than agreeing to the cut-price deal.

Should Liverpool let Mane leave?

Mane has been a crucial player for Liverpool for several years. His contributions to the team’s recent triumphs are immense and considering he is providing sensational performances, three might not be a better idea for the Reds than keeping the Senegalese star in the team.

Liverpool should do everything possible to get a good deal out of his transfer. Mane still remains a world-class forward and would be a massive boost for any team that signs him. Such players are rare in number and our club should get a huge figure in case they have to let him leave in the coming summer.

However, if the 30-year-old wishes to leave the club in order to take a new challenge, Liverpool shouldn’t keep him at the club against his will. It wouldn’t be the best solution for both parties and it might hurt the beautiful relationship between the club and the player.

If Bayern is unwilling to accept the demanded price then Liverpool should look to add performance-based bonuses which would take the overall price closer to the demanded one. As Mane is a top striker, there is a great possibility he would achieve the milestones which would allow our team to get what they want.
