Transfer News: Liverpool to go all out for Benfica striker and Manchester United target Darwin Nunez

According to transfer news on Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool will ‘do everything they can’ to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan striker has been in red hot form for the Eagles this season and has 34 goals in 41 games across all competitions during that time. This has naturally put him on the radar of several clubs, including the Reds.

It is claimed that Jurgen Klopp sees Nunez as an ‘ideal‘ replacement for Sadio Mane, who has been linked with an exit from the club. The Senegalese superstar has recently played as a centre-forward since Luis Diaz’s signing in January.

Signed from FC Porto, Benfica’s rival, the Colombian winger has become one of Liverpool’s most important players. But can Nunez- if signed by our club- replicate that form?

Natural selection

That is something only time can tell. The Uruguayan star has certainly made the world sit up and take notice since scoring against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

He was also on the scoresheet against the Reds in the UCL quarter-final stage this season. If Klopp does indeed like what he sees in him, then there is no debate to be had.

There is no point questioning Klopp’s eye for talent ever since his move to Merseyside in 2015. Roberto Firmino looks like he is on the wane while Divock Origi‘s potential exit this summer is no secret.

Amidst this, an exciting young striker in Nunez can really spice things up for us next season. The Reds, however, would have to battle PSG, Manchester United, and Real Madrid if they really want the 22-year-old hitman.
