Mo Salah’s preferred destination comes to light if Liverpool contract runs out

Transfer News: Mohamed Salah wants Premier League stay if Liverpool contract expires

According to James Pearce of the Athletic (Subscription Required), Mohamed Salah would prefer to stay in the Premier League if his Liverpool contract expires.

He is on a deal that runs out in the summer of 2023 and if it isn’t renewed, the Egyptian will leave as a free agent. That is a situation too scary to imagine because the Reds risk losing one of their greatest ever players for nothing.

It is also claimed that Salah is open to a two-year extension at the club if the terms are right- which right now, according to his entourage, are not good enough.

Now, it isn’t mentioned which club he would prefer, but arguably only Manchester City can match Liverpool pound-for-pound right now. Manchester United would be an unthinkable destination for Mo if you ask our fans, while Chelsea are a team he has played for in the past.

Salah to stay in PL?

Newcastle United seem to have a good project going on at St James’ Park since the takeover but are currently far off from European football. It would be a shame if Salah moves to any of our Premier League rivals.

It’s not wrong to suggest that if he chooses the wrong club- one who may be our rivals or competitors for the biggest titles- then he risks tarnishing his Liverpool legacy. But then again, all of this stress would go away if the Reds simply match his demands.

Mohamed Salah risks ruining his Liverpool legacy.

Of course, the club may not be open to breaking their wage structure for a player who turns 30 in two weeks’ time, but Salah is arguably still in his prime years. He has so much more left to give.

He might not be the most aesthetic player to look at but he gets the job done. Jurgen Klopp is here at Liverpool for a few more years and keeping Mo with the German has obviously worked wonders for us since his move from AS Roma.

This is a partnership that benefits both parties. Hopefully, Mo and his entourage understand that.
