Transfer News: Liverpool have no intention of signing Ousmane Dembele
According to Spanish journalist Sique Rodriguez Gairi (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool officials laughed off rumours linking them with a move for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.
The Frenchman’s Barcelona tenure has been haunted by recurring injuries. At the start of the last campaign, the Frenchman suffered a knee injury, which prevented him from taking part in most of the initial games. While he did return to action, it was not at the expected level.
Liverpool have been linked with Dembele for some time now. The Reds are currently in a contract stand-off with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane and there is a huge possibility that the Senegalese might leave in the summer window.
However, now it is believed that Liverpool officials laughed when they heard their club has been linked with a potential move for the World Cup winner. It is believed that the Merseyside club has no interest in signing the former Borussia Dortmund man.
Good decision from the board?
Mane has been a sensational performer for Liverpool and his departure would have a huge impact on the overall depth of the team. However, as January signing Luis Diaz has blended into the system nicely, the Reds have got the breathing space to think and target quality reinforcements in the summer window.
Dembele has mostly spent his Barcelona spell on wheelchairs as he has been prone to an injury crisis. In 150 total appearances across all competitions for the Catalan club, the Frenchman has been only able to bag 32 goals and 34 assists, which is decent at best considering his ability.
Dembele has potential but has failed to get going even at the age of 25. But looking at his disappointing spells, our club might be better off betting on the rising stars rather than splashing the cash on the 25-year-old.

The board’s priority should be convincing Mane to stay, but if they can’t do that then Liverpool should look for other alternatives in the market. A forward reinforcement would be highly required if the Senegalese leaves and the club should plan accordingly this summer.
