Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara ruled out of Spanish squad thanks to injury
According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool superstar Thiago Alcantara has suffered a fresh injury blow that will keep him out of Spain’s upcoming fixtures.
The 31-year-old is coming off the back of an excellent season with the Reds, winning both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. Liverpool also came agonisingly close to securing the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles as well.
Thiago has been privy to injuries for most of his career. He recently looked likely to miss the final against Real Madrid after a setback against Aston Villa. However, he made it in time and started in Paris in what was eventually a losing cause.
His performances earned him a recall to the Spanish squad ahead of their games against Portugal, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. Unfortunately, he has now suffered a muscular injury to his right leg and will miss out on adding to his 46 caps for La Roja.
Despite the setback, the 31-year-old will remain with the Spanish squad until Thursday when they will face Portugal. Hopefully, no efforts will be made to rush him back into action, which could further impact his fitness going forward.
Thiago played in 39 of Liverpool’s 63 games last season, most of them towards the latter end of the campaign. He was virtually unstoppable and brought his A-game to Jurgen Klopp’s side as they chased the impossible dream of a quadruple.
Despite falling short, the Reds can hold their heads high. Thiago is likely to play a similarly significant role for the Reds in 2022/23 and it is in our best interests to ensure he receives enough rest this summer.
With the FIFA World Cup set to take place this year, players will find off-time difficult to come by. Thiago’s setback might in fact prove to be a blessing as he can now rest and recuperate this summer.
