Talks are at an ‘advanced stage’ for Liverpool to sign Aberdeen right-back and Leeds United transfer target, Calvin Ramsay, according to Football Insider (h/t Leeds Live).
Leeds have turned their attention to Red Bull Salzburg’s Rasmus Kristensen. This effectively leaves the path clear for the Reds to go on and sign the 18-year-old Scottish talent.
Ramsay has made a big name for himself within the space of a year and has piqued the interest of PL teams. As a result, he could be leaving the Pittodrie as early as this summer.
With LFC now closer to signing Ramsay, it becomes intriguing to ask where he can fit in this Liverpool team. The most obvious answer would be as a backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Englishman is as important to our team as the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, and there is next to no chance Jurgen Klopp replaces him in the starting XI anytime soon.
There is no doubt that regular minutes may have come more often at Elland Road for Ramsay. But if he signs for Liverpool, then there shouldn’t be a shortage of chances here as well.
He can still play in cup games and when the German manager wants to rest TAA every now and then. Liverpool played every single match of this campaign and would aim to repeat that feat next season.
And hence, they can use depth and quality all across the pitch. Ramsay’s potential signing, however, would raise a massive question mark over the future of Neco Williams.
The Welsh right-back is set to return to Anfield from his loan spell at Fulham and it remains to be seen what happens to his Liverpool future if Ramsay comes in.
