PL giants ‘could poach’ Liverpool contract rebel for surprise reunion

Transfer News: Chelsea could poach Liverpool contract rebel Mohamed Salah in the near future

According to football.london, Chelsea are amongst three Premier League clubs that could potentially poach Mohamed Salah if he doesn’t renew his contract with Liverpool.

As per James Pearce of the Athletic (Subscription Required), Salah’s preference will be to stay in the PL if he runs down his LFC deal. The Egyptian superstar is awaiting an improved offer from Liverpool to extend a contract that expires in the summer of 2023.

And that only makes sense. Only Manchester City can match Liverpool right now in terms of competing for the biggest titles on a consistent basis. The CItyzens were a couple of minutes away from reaching the UCL final this season and won the league by just one point.

The Blues, meanwhile, are arguably the third best-placed team in England if Salah wants to play for a Premier League and UEFA Champions League contender. Of course, it was at Stamford Bridge where he first got the chance to impress in England.

Salah to Chelsea?

His move to London was a flop and he then made a name for himself at AS Roma. The rest, they say, is history. But the possibility of losing Salah to a PL rival is something that would really frustrate Liverpool fans.

Not only would it make them question Salah’s loyalty towards Liverpool, but also why the club lost out arguably its most consistent attacker to a direct rival in England. That would be akin to Manchester City losing Kevin de Bruyne to us.

The best clubs in the world try and retain their best players instead of letting them leave and strengthen their direct rivals. If Salah is to leave, a foreign club could be the best option if you ask our fans.

That way, he cannot directly hurt our chances at domestic trophies and it would help keep his legacy at Anfield intact. Move to a rival such as Chelsea and he risks ruining his legacy like Fernando Torres did when he left Anfield for the Bridge all those years back.
