Elliott reveals he has been ‘begging’ Liverpool teammate to renew his contract

Harvey Elliott says he is ‘begging’ Mohamed Salah to renew Liverpool contract

Speaking to This Is Anfield (h/t Liverpool Echo), Harvey Elliott has revealed that he has been ‘begging’ Mohamed Salah on a frequent basis to renew his Liverpool contract.

The Egyptian superstar is on a deal that expires in the summer of 2023. Amidst this, the former Chelsea man has committed his future to the club for next season.

Rather than bringing a sense of relief, it has raised another big dilemma- whether the Reds sell him this summer to cash in on him, meet his demands and offer him a new contract, or let him go for free next year.

Elliott, our 19-year-old starlet who has clearly made a big impact on Jurgen Klopp since his move from Fulham, only wants one outcome from this saga.

“I’ve been begging him to sign every single day. And I think the fans have as well. He’s been a great asset to this club, he’s got us to so many finals by scoring winning goals, important goals.”

What should LFC do?

It has come to a point where LFC fans would slowly be starting to make peace with the fact that they can very well lose their star attacker by next summer. He is world-class and his numbers are right up there with the very best ever since his move from AS Roma.

But his form after AFCON this year was, by his high standards, dismal. Despite that, the Reds kept on going strong and the signing of Luis Diaz in January has truly shown that Liverpool are no longer a team dependent on just one attacker.

While life will go on at Liverpool Football Club whether Salah stays or leaves, his numbers will be tough for anyone to replicate. Elliott can himself be a player that is tasked with filling his boots in the future if Salah does leave.

More Liverpool News

The Englishman has played out wide for Fulham and LFC before Klopp started playing him as a right-sided central midfielder. He clearly shares a good relationship with Mo and if the Egyptian stays, another pro to that would be Elliott getting to learn his trade from one of the best in the business.
