Report: Liverpool make ‘offer’ to sign £68m star playing in France

Transfer News: Liverpool make offer to sign Aurelien Tchouameni but face Real Madrid and PSG battle

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo via Paisley Gates (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have made an ‘offer’ to sign AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

The 22-year-old star is on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain as well as Real Madrid, with the latter being his preferred destination. The valuation of the offer made by LFC isn’t mentioned.

However, the midfielder is valued at around £68million, which is by no means a small fee for a young player. He has been a regular fixture for his team this season but could only lead them to a place in the UEFA Champions League playoff spot for the next campaign.

The Reds are arguably at par with Los Blancos in terms of their sporting project. The two teams recently fought it out in the UCL final, with the Reds losing 1-0 despite dominating proceedings throughout the game.

Where next for Tchouameni?

PSG have a knack for signing talented players from within their league and it will be interesting to see where Tchouameni ends up this summer- if he leaves Monaco at all. He would also have one eye on the FIFA World Cup later this year.

National team managers would, of course, want players that play regularly for the club teams. Tchouameni has featured for France in the past year or so and would be hoping to make Les Bleus

All things considered, it would be hard for him to enjoy instant playing time at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp’s preference for playing Fabinho and Jordan Henderson is well known while Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara have really come into their own this season.

At 22, he is undoubtedly playing at a level that is beyond his age but it remains to be seen if he joins the Reds. He can, of course, be a superb long-term prospect for when our established players leave the starting XI. But right now, it’s hard to see where he will start.
