Liverpool told PL rivals are ‘bidding the hardest’ to sign 13-assist contract rebel

Transfer News: Liverpool told Chelsea are leading the race to sign Barcelona contract rebel Ousmane Dembele

According to Marca in English, Chelsea have been ‘bidding the hardest in the last few days’ to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele amidst interest from Liverpool.

The French winger is in the last couple of weeks of his current contract and becomes a free agent at the end of this month. This has naturally alerted a number of clubs, including the Reds, the Blues, PSG, and Bayern Munich.

Still just 25, Dembele has shown that he is still one of the best in the business in his position. The former Rennes winger has 13 assists in La Liga this season and has become an important part of Xavi Hernandez’s starting XI.

He is yet to renew his deal at Camp Nou but is still not close to deciding his next destination if he does leave Barca. That is despite Chelsea’s best efforts in recent days, which should concern Liverpool.

LFC must react to Chelsea interest

Dembele is a menace down the flanks with his speed off the blocks, dribbling skills, and passing abilities. He still has a long career ahead of him despite already spending close to five years at Barcelona since his move from Borussia Dortmund.

Injuries stagnated his growth to a certain extent in Spain but he peculiarly did not have such widespread fitness problems during his time in Germany and France. If he keeps fit, there is nothing stopping Dembele from being one of the best attackers in the world.

And that is exactly why the Reds must move heaven and earth to sign him this summer. Not only would he potentially be available on a free transfer, but Dembele could also act as a readymade replacement for either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane.

The Reds duo is linked with an exit from Anfield by next summer when their contracts expire, and there is absolutely no doubt that our fanbase would want a worthy name to be their successor. Dembele, with his ability and age profile, is definitely a candidate to consider.
