Incoming La Liga boss set to transfer-list Liverpool target for €40m

Transfer News: Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso set to offload Liverpool target Carlos Soler

According to Spanish outlet Diaro AS via Mundo Deportivo (h/t the Express), new Valencia manager Gennaro Gattuso is set to transfer-list Liverpool target Carlos Soler.

The 25-year-old midfielder will enter the final 12 months of his contract at the Mestalla. And in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer, Los Che are set to offload him this summer itself.

A deal for the Spaniard could set LFC back by €40million. Arguments can be made for and against this price tag but it would depend on which side of the line you’re on.

Valencia would cite Soler’s ability and age profile to demand a suitable fee for him while Liverpool fans may feel that the price tag is a bit steep considering the player can become a free agent next summer.

Soler to LFC?

The Reds could also use a midfielder like Soler right now, with their current starters not getting any younger. Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson are in their 30s while squad player James Milner is nearing the end of his playing days.

Naby Keita could play a big role for LFC in this regard but Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott– both of whom played primarily as wingers during their formative years- are too inexperienced to get regular starts in the centre of the park.

Soler, with 12 goals across all competitions this season, could also bring goals to Liverpool’s midfield. He has already been capped seven times by Spain’s senior team and would know that playing for a global giant like Liverpool can help him catch Luis Enrique’s eyes on a more frequent basis.

Then again, it remains to be seen if the Reds actually do make a move for him this summer. We have already signed Fabio Carvalho this summer while Elliott would want to use this season to make a case for himself being a regular starter for us.
