Official: Liverpool confirm departure of seven players this summer

Official: Liverpool confirm seven departures as retained list is released- Divock Origi, Loris Karius among those leaving

Liverpool, on their official website, have confirmed that seven players will leave the club in the summer, with the names consisting of first-team stars as well as academy starlets.

Divock Origi and Loris Karius are perhaps two of the biggest names on the list. The Belgian striker has been linked with a transfer to AC Milan, while Karius has yet to feature in a competitive game for LFC since the UEFA Champions League final in Kyiv.

Ben Woodburn, as well as Sheyi Ojo, are also set to become free agents. The duo represented the senior team and were expected to become important first-team players for the club.

Elijah Dixon-Bonner has been with Liverpool since 2015.

But they just haven’t lived up to expectations. Academy starlets Elijah-Dixon Bonner, Sean Wilson, and Luis Longstaff are also missing from Liverpool’s retained list and will find themselves looking for a new club.

Farewell an icon

The trio’s exit will not impact the senior team in a big way considering they seemed a long way away from being a regular feature under Jurgen Klopp. In all honesty, Origi’s exit is perhaps the only one that should seriously trouble Liverpool.

Finding a replacement for him is very hard. A super-sub that has a habit of rising up on the big occasions is a rare find and Origi was arguably our only natural out-and-out centre-forward.

Diogo Jota has been found playing out wide at times while Roberto Firmino is more accustomed to playing as a false nine. Saying that a bench player needs replacing is a statement you may not hear often, but in this case, it is an utmost necessity.

Darwin Nunez is a name we have been heavily linked

with in recent days but the Uruguayan striker would arguably come in as a starter. Could Firmino then take up a role on the bench? That is something only time will tell.
