Injury News: Diogo Jota sends Instagram message after Liverpool star’s thigh issue for Portugal vs Switzerland

Liverpool star Diogo Jota took to his Instagram account to send a message after his latest injury while playing for Portugal on international duty, as per Liverpool Echo.

The 25-year-old forward featured for Fernando Santos’ team in their 1-0 loss against Switzerland in their fourth group game of the UEFA Nations League. The Liverpool star didn’t start the game.

However, he made his way onto the pitch for the in-form AC Milan winger Rafael Leao with just less than half an hour to play. Nevertheless, the national team confirmed after the game that the player suffered a thigh issue.

Portugal are anyway not playing another Nations League game until September. But the injury brings close to a very good season for Jota on an individual level.

Jota injury latest

Having scored 21 times for the Reds in all competitions despite not being a regular starter, it can be counted as the former Wolves man’s best season in England. Taking to his social media account on Instagram, the versatile attacker wrote:

“Unfortunately this season ended with a defeat and with an injury! Time to rest and recover to come back fit into the new one.”

It remains to be seen what Jota’s role will now be in the next season. The Reds have announced the signing of Darwin Nunez- that isn’t a secret anymore.

Surely the ex-SL Benfica star will warrant a starting place with Luis Diaz another ex-Primeira Liga player without whom we cannot imagine our first XI anymore. Then we have Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Divock Origi may be out, but that still means Jota may well have to prove his worth next season and find a place for himself in the starting XI somehow.
