Liverpool have been told to sign Christian Eriksen by former LFC and Newcastle United left-back Jose Enrique, with the Denmark international already on the radar of Manchester United, Everton, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Taking to his Instagram account (h/t the Mirror), the Spaniard said that Eriksen- a free agent- would be an ideal solution to our midfield conundrum which would then give us some time before we can push for Jude Bellingham again.
“[Eriksen is] Another interesting player that could be our solution to our midfield… And no spending nothing because he is a free agent. He is a short-term solution but then we can wait for Bellingham next season.”
The Reds are, of course, linked with a move for the Bundesliga sensation who is also on the transfer radar of Real Madrid. But apparently, Borussia Dortmund are not open to the idea of losing another star this summer after Manchester City’s capture of Erling Haaland.
Eriksen, now 30, is not really a bad player to have in your ranks. But do the Reds have a need for him? Cases can be made for both sides.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is linked with an exit while James Milner is restricted to short cameos. Naby Keita was impressive in the latest season but his injury record means we can’t really count on him to stay fit for long durations.
The majestic Thiago Alcantara has had his bouts with injuries too since joining from Bayern Munich. In that sense, signing an extra pair of legs- those with the skills and experience of Eriksen’s- would be a smart move.
He is a free agent, after all, which would save us money in that regard and add depth to the squad. But then again, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are two eager youngsters knocking on the door for more first-team opportunities.
If we don’t bring in a midfielder and do pursue Bellingham next year, the two young Englishmen can be counted on by Klopp. Enrique’s suggestion, nevertheless, is a smart one.
