Transfer News: Vinicius Junior rejects Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United for new Real Madrid contract

According to Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Liverpool Echo), Vinicius Junior is set to sign a new Real Madrid contract after rejecting approaches from Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

Paris Saint-Germain are another club who have been linked with the 21-year-old, whose contract expires in 2024. But as LFC did with Divock Origi back in 2019, Madrid are ready to extend the Brazilian’s stay after his goal in this year’s UEFA Champions League final.

The new contract could include an £870million buyout clause. Safe to say, that is a sum that no club can meet- at least not right now. This comes as another blow for the Reds from Vinicius’ end.

He scored the only goal in the UCL final between Los Blancos and the Reds in Paris this May. And now, he has apparently rejected our approaches in favour of staying in Spain.

No Vinicius for LFC

Liverpool fans suffered one of the most painful defeats of their lives when we lost to Madrid in the Champions League final at the Parc des Princes. We were dominant throughout the game but succumbed to Madrid’s only good legal chance of the game.

In for the Brazilian star, who arrived in La Liga as a teenager, we could have had a solid long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian star turned 30 this month and is out of contract next year.

But then again, there isn’t really a reason for him to leave Los Galacticos right now. He is one of their main attackers and has a very bright future ahead of him.

They have just won La Liga and the UCL this summer and unless Vinicius wants a new challenge outside of Spain’s capital, the Reds don’t really offer him anything different that would make him sacrifice the legacy he’s building in Spain.

But at least, a player of his calibre won’t be joining any of our rivals for domestic trophies- at least that’s what it looks like right now.
