According to Daily Mail, Liverpool star Sadio Mane is set to undergo medical tests later today to complete his transfer move to Bayern Munich this summer. He is in line to leave Anfield for that reason after spending six long years at the club, earning several major titles along the way.
The Reds have already agreed to sell Mane to Bayern for a fee of £35.1million in this transfer window. He is set to undergo medical after travelling from Mallorca to Germany today for that very reason. It is also expected that he will be unveiled by the Bundesliga giants as their player tomorrow.
Jurgen Klopp’s side wanted to keep hold of the Senegalese international, but his desire to join Bayern Munchen forced their hands to sell him in the end. Mane is also in line to enter the final year
of his contract, which could have further played a part in their decision, as they would have lost him for nothing after the next season. There is no doubt that the 30-year-old is a Liverpool legend looking at how he has fared for us since joining us from Southampton for £31million plus £2.5million in bonuses back in 2016. As such, one could say that we have not been dealt with any losses even though we would be losing one of our star players.
We have sold the African ace for a profit despite his contract situation forcing us to concede our control over his future. Furthermore, he played a major part in our success under Klopp, helping us to one Premier League title, a Champions League trophy, one Carabao Cup silverware, FA Cup, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup in the process.
Mane also scored a remarkable 120 goals alongside 48 assists from 269 matches across all competitions during his spell with us. He has certainly warranted the good wishes from our side, even if it is difficult to see him leave after all these years with us.
Even if we decided to agree to a sum below our initial £42.5million price tag, there is no doubt that we have done a good piece of business in this regard. Darwin Nunez’s arrival would certainly help in maintaining quality and depth in our frontline moving forward.
That means Nunez and Roberto Firmino would likely battle it out for the striker role that Mane was featured in at times last season. Meanwhile, the latter’s primary position, being the left-wing role, is expected to be filled in by Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz for the foreseeable future.
We have lost crucial players like Georginio Wijnaldum in the past as well, but the board and Klopp have adapted to their exits quite well since then. The fans would hope to see the same happen in Mane’s situation moving forward.
