Transfer News: Liverpool will need to splash out £35 million to land Marco Asensio this summer

Liverpool have discovered what it will take for them to land Real Madrid star Marco Asensio who looks set to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The 26-year-old winger has a year left on his contract, and with doubts about a renewal. According to Diario AS via Mirror, Los Blancos are demanding £35 million for him this summer.

The Reds remain a possible destination for the player but AC Milan and Arsenal are also in the fray and will pose competition for his signature. A three-time UEFA Champions League winner, Asensio is not short of options.

Do Liverpool need Asensio?

Liverpool have a stacked attack as of now following the signing of Darwin Nunez. Other options include Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. Fabio Carvalho is another exciting prospect who can play on the wings.

With Salah’s future still uncertain with a year left on his contract, it would be prudent of Liverpool to look for possible replacements. But is Asensio the answer?

The Spaniard made 42 appearances for Madrid last term, scoring 12 goals. He wasn’t Carlo Ancelloti’s first choice, with Rodrygo and Federico Valverde preferred on the right-hand side. The Spanish winger has suffered some minor injuries over the last couple of seasons which have also contributed to his fall from grace.

Some fans will probably be wondering what Asensio’s possible arrival could bring to the table. Those who’ve seen him play regularly will know that he has a peach of a left foot. While he is a match-winner on his day, Asensio’s inconsistency can be frustrating.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether a possible move for the winger will be pursued by the Reds or whether they’ll stick with the attacking options at the club.

Although, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Jurgen Klopp go for the talented Spaniard and help him take his performance to the next level. The German has done it with many players over the years and fans will hope that he can do the same if Asensio arrives at Anfield.
