Calvin Ramsay and Jurgen Klopp speak out after Liverpool transfer confirmed

While speaking in interviews as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Calvin Ramsay and Jurgen Klopp have separately shared their thoughts on crossing paths in the coming days as the Scotsman begins his journey with Liverpool.

Ramsay came through the Aberdeen youth system and made his senior squad debut in March of last year. This past season, the teenage right-back established himself as a fixture in the side, appearing 33 times in all competitions and recording a goal and nine assists. The 18-year-old has also represented Scotland’s Under-21 squad on three occasions.

Ramsay had been in negotiations with Liverpool for some time, and other Premier League teams were also interested in signing him. But in the end, the Reds managed to overcome their rivals for the teenager’s signature and agreed on a fee that could rise to £6.5m with add-ons.

The Scottish youngster lauded Liverpool’s attitude towards young players and suggested that he is ready to showcase his exceptional skills to the fans.

“I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really to be here. It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world. There’s obviously a pathway here – that’s one of the reasons I chose it as well. It’s not just a massive club, they give young players chances in the first team.”

Jurgen Klopp has praised Calvin Ramsay in his recent press conference as he believes his latest signing checks all the requirements.

“Calvin is another exciting young player, so we’re very pleased. He has bags of potential. He is athletic, smart, confident, with good technical ability and – always crucial – is eager to learn. So there’s lots to like.”

Ramsay should be a good long-term addition to Liverpool, and it appears that his decision was influenced by the club’s desire to deploy young players. Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, our two other additions this summer, are also relatively young.

Despite having reserves for the left-back position, the Reds only had Trent Alexander-Arnold as a recognised right-back in the latest season. That’s why, in recent seasons, Liverpool has been completely reliant on the academy graduate’s services.

Despite his natural position as a centre-defender, Joe Gomez has been Trent’s backup this year. Neco Williams, of course, is still a Red but he was loaned out to Fulham this term. Perhaps he hasn’t been comfortable with the lack of minutes due to our English full-back.

Liverpool’s squad would be strengthened by the addition of Calvin Ramsay. The Aberdeen kid, who is still just 18, has the potential to provide us with numerous peak years. Given that he is already following in Alexander-Arnold’s footsteps, he should have no trouble settling in with Liverpool.
