Transfer News: AS Monaco agree £15.5m deal for Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino

Takumi Minamino is close to leaving Liverpool for a fee of £15.5million, and AS Monaco have agreed to a deal with the Reds for the Japanese star. The deal is expected to be broken down into £12.9million plus £2.6million in add-ons, according to Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old signed for Liverpool in 2020 but hasn’t been able to break into the first team. He has, however, had an influence on the club in cup games, helping us win the EFL Cup and FA Cup last season.

The right time for Minamino to move on

Anfield is set to witness some exciting new players up front next season. Darwin Nunez is the big-money signing that Liverpool will be looking to count on when the campaign begins. Fabio Carvalho is another youngster who will be looking to make a mark on Merseyside.

With this in mind, it isn’t surprising to see Minamino leave the club. The Japanese winger had featured in just 24 games for the Reds in the 2021/22 season, coming on as a substitute 15 times.

The 27-year-old scored 10 goals in all competitions, with some important ones to aid the club in their Carabao and FA Cup wins.

Signing from Red Bull Salzburg in the 2020 winter transfer window, the Reds were enticed by his impressive performances in the Champions League. But since then, the winger hasn’t been able to establish himself in Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

He was sent out on loan to Southampton for the second half of the 2020/21 season, possibly to gain more time on the pitch and Premier League experience. But it looks like his time with the Reds has almost come to an end.

Even with Sadio Mane‘s departure, with the additions made to the front line, it is understandable that a squad player leaves to look for more minutes, especially with the World Cup round the corner.
