Former Man United hero rates Liverpool’s 2022/23 PL title prospects

Gary Pallister names Liverpool among the favourites to win the Premier League in 2022/23

Manchester United icon Gary Pallister in an interview with Metro.co.uk on behalf of Bookies Bonuses (h/t football.london) claimed that Liverpool and Manchester City are the favourites for the Premier League title next season.

The 56-year-old believes his former club still has ways to go and predicts Man United to only challenge for the top four. Given the results of the last few seasons, that makes sense.

“You would be a fool to not back them [City and Liverpool] to be challenging for the title next season.”

The former defender doesn’t believe other top teams such as Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur can challenge the Anfield and Etihad clubs for the title.

“You look at Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, can they really mount a challenge against them two? No. Can United? I think it would be a huge effort for them to do that, I don’t think that is going be possible next year.”

Liverpool and City will fight for the title once again

With the additions Liverpool and City have made, it’d be remiss if people didn’t have either of the teams as favourites for the title once again next season.

The Reds will see the additions of Darwin Nunez alongside other exciting players. The Cityzens have strengthened by signing Erling Haaland. The two teams could make other signings before the season ends to add more depth to their squads.

Adding more firepower up front, the league could be set to witness more of the same next season.

City and Liverpool have strengthened their squad.

With other teams still assessing their transfer strategy, Liverpool and City will remain the teams to beat next season.

With the challenge for the title going down the wire last season, the two teams’ quality shone through. There was only one point between the Reds and the Cityzens, similar to the 2018/19 season.

Liverpool and City have been the two teams consistently challenging for the title over the last few years. It’s understandable that those who follow the Premier League believe the title will either go to the red half of Merseyside or the blue half of Manchester.

It remains to be seen what other teams do in the transfer window, but as things stand, you wouldn’t want to bet against City or Liverpool.
