“Made it easy”- Liverpool legend backs Reds’ ace to mentor promising summer signing

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes Andy Robertson will look after Calvin Ramsay

Speaking with the Daily Mail, Steve Nicol believes Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson will help compatriot Calvin Ramsay adjust to life on Merseyside after his transfer from Aberdeen earlier this month.

Looking back on his time, the Anfield legend remembers having players like Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Alan Hansen by his side when he first joined the club.

The Scottish legends made life easy for Nicol in the dressing room and he believes Robertson will play a similar role in helping Ramsay fit in.

“They made it easy for me. And when I look at this Liverpool squad now, they look really together, too. No doubt Robbo will be the first one that will look after Ramsay, so I expect it just to be the same.”

The Liverpool legend also stated that he was happy to see some Scottish players back again in the Reds dressing room. The 60-year-old believes Ramsay will be helped by his fellow countryman and will be looked after well.

“Robbo is a good guy as well, so I don’t think there’s any danger. As I said, he’ll look after Calvin.”

Robertson is a shining example

When Robertson made his move from Hull to Liverpool in 2017, most fans didn’t expect him to turn into one of the best left-backs in world football. Since then, the 28-year-old has been a constant part of the team, helping the side win every major trophy.

The Scotland national team captain has grown leaps and bounds in his time at Anfield and will certainly go down as one of the legends of the club.

Robertson has everything in his locker and has formed an indomitable partnership with Trent Alexander-Arnold. They might be fullbacks on paper, but the pair are crucial in the Reds’ build-up play and attack.

In his time at Anfield, the 28-year-old has registered 52 assists in 223 appearances for the club.

Ramsay will hope to emulate his compatriot at Liverpool and hope to find a place in the team and compete with Trent. But right now, it’ll be a difficult task and it remains to be seen whether the 18-year-old can hold his own and make himself an option for Jurgen Klopp.

For now, it’ll be prudent for the young full-back to learn everything he can from Trent and Robertson, who will hopefully act as a mentor to Ramsay.
