Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool icon Divock Origi to sign for AC Milan “in the next hours”

Liverpool fan favourite Divock Origi is close to completing his move to AC Milan as he flies to Milan to undergo his medical test. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old will reach Italy in the next few hours to sign his contract with the Italian champions.

The Belgian is close to joining the Rossoneri on a free transfer after being signed eight years ago by the Merseyside club. The striker has also been loaned out on two separate occasions by Liverpool.

An impact player

Origi’s name will forever remain etched in the folklore of Anfield as the forward has scored some very important goals for the club- none more so than the two against Barcelona in the semi-final of the 2018/19 UCL season.

While he hasn’t been a big part of the first team in recent years for the Reds, Jurgen Klopp has trusted him to come on and make an impact and the player has repaid the faith shown in him on several occasions.

With the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at Klopp’s disposal, Origi found it difficult to be a regular starter but always gave his all when called upon.

But regardless, he made himself an important member of this team. Klopp knew he had the Belgian as his last resort in games where the Reds needed a result desperately.

But with the additions of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz last season, the forward found it even harder to feature, being involved in 18 games, coming on as a substitute in most of them.

With the addition of Darwin Nunez for the upcoming season, Origi’s chances of being a first-team regular would have been next to zero. It was in the player’s best interest to leave, with his number 27 already inherited by our new signing from SL Benfica.

Fans will look back on Origi’s time at the club and will certainly cherish the memories the Belgian has provided in a Liverpool shirt.

It remains to be seen what sort of role and impact the forward will have at the San Siro but with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud’s age catching up to them, the Belgian can be an important player for them this season.
