“I don’t believe we need him”- Jose Enrique on German forward linked with Liverpool

Transfer News: Jose Enrique doesn’t believe Liverpool need Timo Werner

Former Spanish youth-international Jose Enrique has come out on Twitter and said that Timo Werner is not a player Liverpool must sign in the summer transfer window.

Reacting to the interest of the Anfield side in the German forward, the former Reds left-back doesn’t believe Liverpool need another attacking player given the number of forwards already in the squad.

Werner would find it difficult at Liverpool

Enrique is right in his assessment of the current squad. The Reds can rely on Mohamed Salah

having another fantastic goal-scoring season in 2022/23. Luis Diaz has got off to a flying start at the Anfield club, threatening to explode on a regular basis.

Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are the others expected to lead the attacking line in the upcoming season. Considering the players we have, it would be difficult for Werner to get into the side.

For a player already low on confidence since his move to the Premier League, a move to Anfield wouldn’t be wise. Considering the German forward had a hard time getting into a Chelsea forward line that disappointed last season, minutes at Liverpool would be hard to come by.

Werner hasn’t been the most prolific player since his move to West London from RB Leipzig. In the Bundesliga, the German was known for his goal-scoring ability and it’s one of the reasons many clubs were interested in his signature.

Chelsea fans would’ve thought they’d pulled off a coup after signing the 26-year-old in 2020. But looking back now, Werner hasn’t been able to live up to expectations. While the Blues fans who’ve seen him play regularly praise his directness, it’s his decision-making in front of goal that leaves a lot to be desired.

If Werner does end up moving to Merseyside, it’ll be interesting to see how Jurgen Klopp incorporates him with the attacking options already at his disposal.
