Reds ace urged to prioritise playing time over money by former PL star

Danny Murphy urges Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to look for game time away from Liverpool

Former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy feels Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should look for a move away from Liverpool. The Englishman has struggled for game time in recent seasons at Anfield.

Speaking to BeMyBet (h/t Birmingham Live

), the 45-year-old said that the Ox should go to a team that could guarantee him playing time. It is far from a given at The Kop for the near future.

“I think the amount of years that he spent not playing regular football would mean that his priority is football now and if that means going to a club with a lesser name then that’s what he should do.”

Murphy called him a “very capable player” and feels the 28-year-old could play regularly in other Premier League sides such as Newcastle United and Aston Villa. It could help rekindle a career that appears to be flagging.

“He’s more than capable in playing in both those sides (Aston Villa and Newcastle).”

The Former Red hopes Ox moves to a team that could provide him first-team football instead of sitting on the bench at a club that might pay him more.

Ox will find it hard to get game time at Liverpool

Since signing from Arsenal for £34 million in 2017, the English midfielder hasn’t been able to establish himself in the first team, and injuries haven’t helped his cause.

In the 28-year-old’s 5 years at the club, the Ox has only featured in 132 games

. While there have been flashes of brilliance, there hasn’t been any real consistency in the midfielder’s performances.

With the additions of Fabinho, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara over the years, the English midfielder has only found it harder to get on the pitch.

With Jordan Henderson and young prospects Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones as well at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, the Ox will find it difficult once again next season to have a chance in the team.

With only one year left on his contract, it would be sensible for the 28-year-old to cut his losses and move to a side where his quality and skill-set will be more utilised.

It remains to be seen what the Ox decides on his future, but if the English midfielder does remain in the squad, the 28-year-old will surely be in and around the team for the upcoming season as Liverpool will look to challenge for all titles once again.
