“This is his club”- Klopp gives honest verdict after Mohamed Salah signs new Liverpool contract

Jurgen Klopp gives his verdict as Mohamed Salah signs new Liverpool contract

Mohamed Salah has finally signed a new contract, putting an end to months of speculation about his Liverpool future. According to the Mirror, it makes him the club’s highest-paid player in history.

He will apparently earn over £350,000 a week at Anfield, which makes him our top earner by quite a margin. However, the wage structure is broken, and it remains to be seen what it means for the contracts of some of our other superstars.

But given that LFC and Salah took this long to pen new terms, hopefully, the club had the time and wisdom to sort all of that out first. We cannot, after all, risk a dressing room divide after one player suddenly gets a big bump in his salary.

Jurgen Klopp has also given his verdict on Salah extending his deal at Anfield for two more years. The former Chelsea and AS Roma winger was set to become a free agent in 2023, but that has been postponed to 2025. Klopp said to Liverpoolfc.com:

“This is a special treat for our supporters to enjoy their weekend even more. I’m sure there will be some celebrations for this news tonight. Really pleased – really, really pleased. It’s the best decision for us and best decision for him. He belongs with us I think. This is his club now.”

Klopp knows how well-liked Salah is. For the supporters, he is the Egyptian King, and for his teammates and coaches- a world-class athlete with a supreme dedication to achieving greatness.

“He is adored by his teammates. As coaches, we know we work with someone special. And the supporters have crowned him a king. So, very cool. It is just great news. It makes me smile thinking about it. He stays with us for longer and it means we can achieve more together.”

Sadio Mane left us last month to seal a move to Bayern Munich. Having Salah leave so soon after the Senegalese’s departure would have really hurt- emotionally as well as tangibly on the pitch.

The focus must now shift towards sealing new deals for other stars who are set to become free agents next summer. Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita are two such names.

As for Salah, he is now 30 and this contract would probably run through his last years at his peak. The main goal now is simple- keep doing what you have been doing for the past five years!
